How to Forward Calls on iPhone

If you are a business magnate or someone who receives a lot of calls everyday, then chances are you have probably missed that important call due to an unexpected shut down of your phone. But you do know as a “busy professional”, it is really important to maintain uniformity amongst your clients and this is exactly where call forwarding comes in to play. It is basically an ‘essential’ feature that lets you forward calls to another phone number ‘especially’ when you are ‘running out’ of battery or need to receive urgent calls on your home or office phone. So today, we’ll walk you through on how to setup call forwarding on iPhone. But before that, let’s see the meaning of call forwarding and its essence.

What Is Call Forwarding

The “concept” of call forwarding was first invented by Ernest J. Bonanno and it has since then, ‘evolved’ to become one of the most used “feature” on iPhone. Typically, call forwarding is a service that diverts or route incoming call to any phone number specified by the subscriber. For one thing, incoming calls can be strategically routed without the knowledge of the caller and it helps to “improve” customer service. So if you are almost out of battery and wants to redirect or divert that important call to a fully charged device, then here is how to forward calls on iPhone.

Setup Call Forwarding on iPhone

At first, one may “wittily” think that call forwarding is an easy thing to setup, but despite the fact that it isn’t complicated, you’ll need credible informations to help you finish the ‘task’ accurately. Enabling call forwarding on your iPhone ‘depends’ on whether your phone is using the GSM or CDMA standard network. If GSM is the provider, then you can “painlessly” setup call forwarding right from your iPhone’s Settings. But if it’s CDMA network, you’ll need to fire up your device’s “dialer” and manually type the carrier codes followed by the phone number to which you want calls to be forwarded to. So “without” any further ado, here’s how to setup call forwarding on iPhone irrespective of your network provider..

For GSM Carriers

If your iPhone is using GSM network such as T-Mobile or AT&T, then you will have access to the call forwarding feature within the Settings menu. One way to check which carrier your iPhone is locked to is by using intuition. Basically, if your device has a SIM slot and an IMEI written on the back cover or within the Settings, then it’s a GSM phone. Now that you’ve known your carrier network, lets setup call forwarding on iPhone 6.

  • To begin with, open up your iPhone’s “Settings” and select “Phone” followed by “Call Forwarding”.
  • From here, tap to turn on Call Forwarding.
  • Then enter the phone number where you want incoming calls to ring.
  • Once done, an icon will appear on the status or notification bar to remain you that call forwarding is active.

Of course you can painlessly disable it by turning off the Call Forwarding feature on your iPhone’s Settings.

For CDMA Carriers

So you just bought a new iPhone only to discover it works without a SIM card and has an MEID or ESN written on the back cover or within the About phone section in Settings; Boom! That’s a CDMA phone (although if it has a SIM tray, then it’s a CDMA phone with GSM capability) from  Verizon or Sprint and you won’t be having the option to turn on call forwarding from the iPhone Settings. So we’ll go the old-fashioned way by firing up the call or dialer app and entering the carrier codes followed by the phone number to which calls should be forwarded. Do note that this method also works on phones with GSM network

  • For T-Mobile, you can easily enable call forwarding by dialing **21* followed by the phone number to which calls should be forwarded. To disable, dial #21#
  • For AT&T, you can dial **21* followed by the phone number where you want your calls to be forwarded to. To disable, dial #21#
  • For Sprint, go ahead and dial *72 followed by the phone number to which calls should be forwarded. Then dial *720 to disable.
  • For Verizon, simply dial *72 followed by the phone number where you want your calls to be forwarded to. Dial *73 to disable.

Wrapping Up

So that’s how to setup call forwarding on iPhone. Do note that the codes you enter to enable or disable call forwarding varies depending on your carrier. While we have compiled a list of that of Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T call forwarding codes, your iPhone may be locked to another carrier. So if it out and look up for the call forwarding codes within the carrier’s official website.
