If you have used an Android or iPhone for a very long time, then “chances” are, you have got a dozen of data stored within it and you wouldn’t want to lose it nor have it compromised. Data is precious, they do last longer than our device itself and it is recommended to have your sensitive data anywhere you migrate to. Now assuming the current device you’re using is getting old and not functioning as you do wanted, then you may have ditched it aside to buy a new phone that’ll satisfy your needs.
But wait, before you get carried away and “stuck in” with enjoying everything your brand new device has to offer, you’ll want to move all the important data on your old smartphone onto the new one, and that is where Copy My Data comes in to play. It’s basically an app that is similar to Move to iOS and Motorola Migrate, but ‘unlike’ the aforementioned, copy my data is fast and more reliable.
What Is Copy My Data?
To simply put, Copy My Data is an app designed to allow users transfer data such as contacts, photos, videos and calendar entries from one device to another over a WiFi network. It typically makes data migration painless and reduces the hassles of uploading your favourite files manually to your new device.
Also, you do be really happy to hear that unlike the Tap and Go feature introduced in Android lollipop, copy my data doesn’t require any internet connection nor NFC to transfer data. It’s completely free, does not bring any advert nor purchasable premium. So without further ado, here’s how to use Copy My Data to transfer data from one device to another.
Download Copy My Data
There are obviously a ton of apps that you can use to copy data to a new device, but the one we are recommending is none other than Copy My Data. Wonder why? It is because it is fast, reliable, easy-to-use and works on Android and iPhone. So go ahead and dive into iTunes or Google Play Store and download Copy My Data APK.
Connect to the Same WiFi Network
Once you have downloaded Copy My Data, the next step you will need to carry out is to connect your old and new device to the same WIFI network. There are two options here, either you “connect” the two phones to your home network, or you can choose to find another device, turn on its mobile hotspot and connect the two phones to it via WiFi.
Copy Your Data to Your New Phone
Once you’ve connected your two phones to the same WIFI network, simply fire up copy my data on both devices and you’ll be greeted with a simple user interface. From here, go ahead and tap the “Next” button to continue.
On the next page, select how you’d want to copy your data. There are two options available, either to copy your data “to or from another device over a WiFi network”, or you can choose to backup and restore from Google drive. So lets kickoff with the first option.
We assume you have had it selected, Copy My Data will “automatically” search for your other device, and once it is detected, simply select it.
On the next screen, you’ll need to choose whether you want to copy data to or from the selected device. So if you’ve recently switched from Android to iPhone and want to transfer your data to your new device, then the first option is what you should choose. So tap on “Copy data to selected device”.
A PIN should display on your old device, simply enter it on your new smartphone and tap next. The pin code is for security reasons and its mainly a four digit number.
Once you have tapped “Next”, you will be asked to select the data you want to copy on the next screen. Simply tick the ones important to you.
When you’re done, tap next and you’re good to go. All of your data will be copied to your new device in less than 5 minutes.
Wrapping Up
Copy My Data is a very straightforward app, with it, you can quickly send your contacts, videos, calendar entries and photos over to your new device and the transfer speed is second to none. It works flawlessly and I personally recommend it if you’re looking to transfer your personal data from Android to iPhone. Copy My Data sadly, can’t transfer files such as music, apps and games, but we do hope to see this feature in the next update
