How To Get Google Assistant On Your Android Phone Without Rooting

If perhaps you’re wondering what the Google assistant is, then you have been living under a rock. The Google assistant is an artificial intelligence that can help simplify and make your life easier. You can use the Google assistant to perform different task on your android device by using your voice alone. For instance you can ask the AI to show you the weather report for the day and watch it perform the task instantly. The Google​ assistant was initially debuted as part of Google’s messaging app called Allo, followed by it’s voice-activated speaker by the name of Google Home.

Now after a period of exclusivity on the Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, the Google Assistant has began to deploy on other Android platforms. So if you’re using an android phone that’s running on 6.0 Marshmallow or 7.0 Nougat and above,  then the Google Assistant is fully available now. Google Assistant could be seen as an advanced and a more refined version of Google Now and this is due to the fact that Google Assistant supports two conversations. Now if the Google’s assistant has not been rolled out on your android device running on Marshmallow and above, then here’s the guide to get it without rooting.

Compatible Android Phones

To begin with, the Google assistant isn’t officially available for all Android device. While this might seem to be a sad news, you can root your lollipop device and edit the build.prop and after that, you will be able to enjoy the artificial intelligence. If you’re on a custom ROM, running on 6.0 Marshmallow, then this guide may not work. Thus the minimum requirements for getting the Google Assistant on your Android device is if you’re running the version of Marshmallow or Nougat and above.

Set Your Phone’s Language to English (US)

Next you’ll need to change your Android device default language to English (US). To get this one going, navigate into your Android device Settings, from here, dive into the Language & Input option. Then you’ve to select the first option which is Language. Then scroll down and simply select English (United States). You can also check your Android version from the settings menu. To check it, go to Android -> About Phone.

Update Google Play Services

To get the Google Assistant running on your device, you’ll need to update Google Play Services app to the latest version. To do this, you’ll probably have to wait for an automatic update which might never happen. So you’ve got to update the app manually by installing it from the Google Play Store itself. Make sure you’re on the latest version 10.2.98 or later in other for things to work out.

Update Google App

Next, you’ll need to update the Google app to it’s latest version. So to get this one going, navigate into the Google Play Store and search for “Google “. Then simply “Update” the app to the latest version 6.13.25.21 or later. Alternatively, you can go to Settings -> Google & then tap on the Search option. Locate the icon at the top right corner of the screen and tap on it. You’ll be taken to the Help and Feedback menu. From here, click on the three-dot menu and tap View in Google Play Store. Then, you’ll be redirected to the Google app page in the Play Store.

Clear Data For Both Apps

Now, after updating the Google app and the Google Play Services, the next step will be to clear the apps cache and data simultaneously. So navigate into your device’s Settings, tap on Applications & then tap on the “All” section. From here, locate the Google Play services & Google App, then tap on them to enter into the apps Storage menu. Next “Clear Data for both the apps.

Launch Google Assistant

Now, after clearing the Google app and Google Play Services data, then all you’ll need to do is simply to tap and hold the Home Button on your Android phone and this will show you a pop-up asking you to get started with Google Assistant on your Android smartphone. Firstly, clear all the recent apps on your device, then go to the home screen and long press on the Home Button. This will start the Google App, so sign up in the Google App, and navigate to the Menu> Settings> from here, you’ll find Google Assistant Settings. Then, dive into the Google Assistant Settings and set things up. That’s it, enjoy the Google assistant on your Android device.
